RB McGrath Unveils New Work

Feb.1, 2010 - Jacksonville, Arkansas. Artist RB McGrath unveil newest work "Girl, after Vermeer" at the artist's Gallery and Studio in Jacksonville. Inspired by Vermeer's series of girl paintings, most notably Girl with a Pearl Earring, McGrath used elements of Vermeer's Flemish technique to produce a stunning, beautiful painting of a girl posed in Vermeer style. The model, an American girl of Russian decent, is exquisitley portrayed in this elegant and luminous work. The original painting which is now up for sale is currently on exhibit at the RB McGrath Studio Gallery. RB McGrath's new video at Current TV takes the viewer on a journey through the Artist's process of The Making of a Portrait. The Model: Salvatore Moltisanti - Italian Superstar and Classical Pianist who is President and Founder of the International Musicians competition known as the IBLA Grand Prize, held annually in Ragusa, Sicily. From a graphite drawing on a 4 x 4 foot canvas, to it's completion in oil, a series of layerd still shots set to the background music Weiniawski's Polonaise de Concert in D. Op.4 for Violin shows how the work developed. The Moltisanti Portrait was unveiled following the IBLA Grand Prize Winners performance in Jacksonville, AR on May 3rd for the Maestro in-person. The painting will be shipped in June and will make it's formal debut in New York City.

First, I would like to congratulate everyone who entered their portraits in this competition. We had portraits submitted from all over the world. The winners represented such countries as: The United States, Thailand, Germany, Sweden, The Czech Republic and Canada. How's that for a Worldwide Art Show?

To me, you are all winners and excellent artists. But there are some portraits here that rose above the others for certain reasons which I will try to briefly explain with my choices. A good portrait should be a flattering image of the person or subject being painted. It shouldn’t make a difference whether it’s in the modern or classical styles. The portrait should be of a flattering nature and not degradational in any way. Jacksonville artist RB McGrath's massive "Controlled Chaos" to hang in the new multi-million dollar Esther C. Nixon Library.

The large, colorful painting inspired by quilting fabrics will be installed later this month.

Library manager Kathy Sey-mour said that the painting, which measures six feet by six feet and will fill an entire wall, “will really add a lot of color.”

McGrath, whose stylistically diverse works are in many private and corporate collections, began thinking about creating a work for the new library several years ago when plans to build it were unveiled. "Knowing that a large building was planned, I conceived of a canvas of compatible scale. "

Controlled Chaos - a gigantic six by six foot work recently accepted into the Public Collection of the Central Arkansas Library System will be installed in the brand new five million dollar Esther C. Nixon Library in Jacksonville, Arkansas in April. This will be McGrath's first work in a public collection. Collecfted privately throughout the U.S. and Canada McGrath works range in price from 2,500 to 100,000 US. Next up:? New RB McGrath work entitled "Portrait of Salvatore Moltisanti " to be formally unveiled at IBLA performance in May of this year, also at Jacksonville, Arkansas, with a second unveiling in New York City in June. TRAIL RIDER Sells to Oregon Private Collection

R B McGraths 28 x 36 oil on canvas entitled TRAIL RIDER has sold to Saundra Buchanan-Getz, an Oregon private collector. The painting, depcting a horse rider breaking on a path in the Oregon woods overlooking Timothy Lake was purchased from Bonham's Fine Art in Jacksonville, Arkansas. The much sought after work won both First Place for Landscape and BEST IN SHOW at the Arkansas State Fair Creative Arts Competition in 2006. Buchanan-Getz paid an estimated six thousand five hundred for the work. McGrath works are in collections throughout the U.S. and Canada.
